On 23-24 of May, 2018, the Polish delegation headed by Marek Moszyński, PhD, DSc, Vice-President of POLSA for Science and Bogdan Wiszniewski, PhD, DSc Director of the Research and Development Department at POLSA, visited the DLR research and development center in Neustrelitz and Berlin. There were also participated representatives of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, Sprint SA and the Polish Fireball Network.
On the first day, the delegation visited the satellite data reception center in Neustrelitz. Mr. Holger Maass, director of the Deutsches Fernerkundungs-Datazentrum DRL center, presented the structure of the center and its functioning. After the presentation, short study visits took place in four institutes operating within the center, which was followed by presentations of members of the Polish delegation. Mr Michał Burka from Sprint SA introduced achievements of Sprint SA in the implementation of integrated safety information systems in the Baltic Sea in Polish maritime administration, Mr. Piotr Stuzik described operation of the IMGW branch in Krakow with particular emphasis on products related to the Baltic. At the request of the German side, president Moszyński presented operation of the SatBałtyk portal (http://www.satbaltyk.pl/), which is the result of a project implemented by Polish scientific entities coordinated by the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Sopot. The presentations were followed by a discussion about potential research and innovation projects that could be implemented by Polish entities in cooperation with the center in Neustrelitz.
On the second day of the stay the Polish delegation visited the DLR research center in Berlin-Adlerhof. The subject of the talks was the construction of a meteoroid observation network. Mr. Jurgen Oberst, head of the planetary research institute, together with his colleagues presented the directions of research conducted by the employees of the institute. In turn, Mr. Mariusz Wiśniewski, Chief Meteorologist from The Central Office of Measures, representing Polish Fireball Network, presented the functioning of the Polish meteoroid observation network created as part of the Polish Fireball Network project implemented in Poland for the last 10 years.
At the end of the visit, the German side presented its meteoroid observation station located on the roof of the DLR building.
This was yet another bilateral meeting of POLSA and DLR. In October 2016, a meeting of representatives of the Polish and German space sector took place in Gdańsk. POLSA was an organizer and its partner - DLR. On April 18-20, 2017, a scientific delegation of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) visited Poland. The purpose of the three-day visit in Warsaw and Gdansk was to learn about the potential and achievements of Polish scientific-research units. On December 12 and 13, 2017 at the invitation of prof. Hansjörg Dittus, board member for space research and technology od DLR, workshops for representatives of Polish research institutions took place at the DLR headquarters in Oberfaffenhofen, Germany.
