The Wrocław edition of World Space Week 2018, which this year was held on October 5-7, is one of the largest events popularizing knowledge and research of Space in Poland. The Polish Space Agency was the media patron of the event, and the president of POLSA, phD Grzegorz Brona, opened a scientific conference and took part in the business section meeting and discussion panel with the participation of 19 companies, institutions and scientific circles dealing with space issues.
The program of the three-day event World Space Week Wroclaw 2018 consisted of a number of industry and open to the general public events, such as: Space City Game with the participation of over 30 several-person teams, astronomical, space, technical and scientific workshops for participants from various age categories, in which nearly 1,000 people participated or two missions of stratospheric balloons conducted by the WroSpace Association and amateur radio players from the SP6ZWR club.
On the third day of the Wrocław Space Week, a popular science conference took place at the Wrocław Conference Center at the Centennial Hall opened by phD Grzegorz Brona, president of the Polish Space Agency. The key part of the event were the lectures of invited guests: dr Tomasz Rożek from the TV program SONDA 2, Maciej Jakimiec from the Copernicus Project, dr Paweł Preś from the University of Warsaw Astronomical Institute, Robert Lubański from Mars Society Poland, dr Agata Kołodziejczyk and Matt Harasymczuk from Space Garden and Lunares, Piotr Koska from the ASTROFAZA online channel, Mateusz Kalisz from the ASTOLIFE project, dr Maciej Mulak and students from the EAGLE project of the Wrocław University of Technology, dr Anna Fogtman from the ESA ESA, dr Tomasz Mrożek from the Polish Space Research Center, and Przemysław Rudź from the Department Education of the Polish Space Agency. Topics discussed included: artificial intelligence, stratospheric missions, gravitational waves, European Martian rover competitions, analog missions, the future of space flight, space missions from the poinf of view of the physicist, interesting facts in the solar system, astronauts' diseases or the design of the Mars lander. Representative of the Department of Education POLSA in his speech presented the portrays of Poles merited in the research of near and far space over the last 150 years.
At the same time as the the conference, a business section took place during which entrepreneurs, students and scientists talked about the future of the space sector in Poland, exchanged experience and discussed problems. The President of POLSA took part in the panel discussion and presentation part of this section. During the discussion, the role of education in the development of the space industry was emphasized. This part was led by Jędrzej Kowalewski, president of Scanway and Jędrzej Górski from the Department of Research and Innovation of the Polish Space Agency.
The World Space Week has been organized in Wrocław for 2 years by the WroSpace association which combines volunteers and enthusiasts of space, astronomy and science. The group of partners involved in the event included i.a.: the Astronomical Institute of the University of Wrocław, Department of Solar Physics, Polish Space Research Center, Polish Association of Amateur Astronomers , High School No. 17 in Wrocław. This year's event was the largest Polish edition of World Space Week, and its events will take place until the end of December 2018. The project is co-financed from the funds of the Civic Initiative Fund (FIO) program, National Institute of Freedom, Center for Development of Civil Society.
