About the subject

The Progress and Business Foundation was established in 1991 as one of the first modern technology transfer centers in Central Europe. The founders of the Foundation are, among others: AGH University of Kraków, Danish Technological Institute, Jagiellonian University, Polish Academy of Sciences. Due to the rapid development of the Foundation’s activity in further areas beyond technology transfer, specifically scientific research, the Technology Transfer Center (TTC) was established as a separate organizational unit in January 1997. For almost three decades TTC has been supporting the development of the Polish and European space sector, taking part, among others, in the activities of the European Science and Technology Observatory (ESTO), in FP5, FP6, and Horizon 2020 projects, such as “Shield” – the use of space technologies in protection against the effects of natural disasters, “Rural Wings” – an integrated project aimed at researching the implementation of satellite internet in isolated and rural regions, and “Moving” – a knowledge repository based on the use of AI, containing, among others, a collection of materials on satellite technologies. For Polish companies in the space sector, CTT offers, among others, a study of development needs in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics co-financed by EU funds. The TTC offers studies on development needs in Artificial Intelligence and robotics dedicated to the space sector, exploitation strategies of space-related innovations, and support in reaching the economic efficiency of R&D projects. We offer coordination algorithms for autonomous robot teams, collaborative multi-robot learning, digital twins of space systems. The TTC provides support for the users of Copernicus satellite missions data, including the most recent Sentinel-2C, specifically to crop model validation and harvesting monitoring. The research activities of the PBF and TTC are performed mainly within the International Centre for Decision Science and Forecasting (CDSF) founded in 2002.

The CDSF and TTC activities are offered to corporations as well as to research project partners.

The most important achievements in the space sector
  • Foundations for the use of mHealth technology in remote treatment of people participating in space missions.
  • Development of the concept, implementation, and assessment of 10 satellite internet stations in DVB-RCS technology in Southern Poland. Activity performed as the consortium member of the Integrated Project of the EU 6th Framework Program for Research and Presentation “Rural Wings”, with the participation of Astrium and Eutelsat.
  • Foresight of the satellite technologies for monitoring and coordination of rescue operations in the situation of natural disasters within the EU 6th Framework Program project “Shield”.
  • Knowledge platform designed and implemented as part of the EU Horizon 2020 MOVING project, including a knowledge repository on the coordination of exploration robots such as planetary missions rovers.
  • A software system for the coordination of an autonomous service and exploration robot team based on the innovative concept of anticipatory networks (http://anticipatory-networks.pbf.biz/pl)
  • Software architecture ensuring the transfer of simulation procedures to the control and coordination system of exploration robots.
  • Optimization of the parameters of exploration robot teams based on the novel world model concept, cooperation with navigation sensor systems, and SLAM software.
