Colonel Marcin Mazur is responsible for the area of security and defense activities at the Polish Space Agency, focusing on the use of satellite technologies. His duties include the development of dual-use services and technologies for both military and civilian needs.

Colonel Marcin Mazur began his military service in 1998 and was promoted to the rank of second lieutenant in 2002. He graduated from the Military University of Technology in Warsaw with a master’s degree in topography and cartography. He started his career as a geospatial reconnaissance officer with the 6th Independent Geographic Unit in Toruń, where he became the commander of the Mobile Geographic Support Team dedicated to NATO Response Forces.

Colonel Mazur then served at NATO’s Joint Forces Command in Brunssum, Netherlands, in the Geospatial Support Section, the J2 Intelligence Directorate, and as an officer in the Imagery Section at the Military Geographic Center in Warsaw. In 2012, he was assigned to the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, in the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Analysis Division – P2, Imagery Reconnaissance Branch.

Colonel Mazur’s goal is to implement the Polish Space Strategy issued in 2017, which aligns with the European Space Strategy 2016 and NATO’s overarching Space Policy 2019. An additional task is to implement the National Space Program for 2022-2026.

At POLSA, Colonel Mazur is responsible for systematizing activities related to security and defense, particularly the development of dual-use capabilities with both military and civilian applications:

  • EOEO – Earth Observation satellite systems;
  • SATCOM – Satellite Communication systems;
  • SSA/SST – Space Situational Awareness / Space Surveillance and Tracking;
  • Launch technologies.
