The objectives of the World Water – Surface Water Dynamics (SWD) project, are to develop and validate innovative and scientificallyrobust EO methods and tools that exploit freely available time series of optical and radar satellite imagery at high spatial and temporal resolution, together with inland water level observations from satellite radar altimetry, for the monitoring of the intra-annual and inter-annual variations of surface waters, in extent and volume; to demonstrate the adequacy of the algorithmic approaches and software tools for large scale surface water monitoring systems, by performing a number of country demonstrations; to showcase the utility of the World Water Surface Water Dynamics products, in combination with existing data sets, by conducting national use case studies related to sustainable water management; and to integrate the World Water SWD tools and products in a web-based surface water information portal with data visualisation, statistical and analytics tools and on-line processing capability.
