New generation GNSS payloads are asking for enhanced EIRP requiring increased antenna power handling capability. Current technologies based on planar patch arrays have shown limitations in this respect. Reflector based navigation antennas are expected to overcomethe problem of power handling making use of waveguide feeds to illuminate the reflector. Dual frequency band operation of reflectorantennas generating isoflux patterns is not trivial and may require smart solutions and architectures to achieve challenging performance in the whole band. Several configurations including smoothly shaped and step shaped reflector shall be investigated. The existing modelling tools, developed mainly for telecommunication needs, such as the ones based on popular Physical Optics (PO), have beendeveloped to meet a gain pattern requirement only. They shall be upgraded to enable the antenna phase pattern as well as the antenna group delay pattern optimization. It is of paramount importance to be able to determine the phase center (PC) and the group delay center (GDC) of the antenna and to assess their stability over the frequency band. The optimization tools ability to take into account all possible perturbation sources such as multipath effects shall be assessed. The design activity shall also address the reflector antenna accommodation issues on a navigation platform. This activity consists of the following tasks: - Development of the RF optimization tool enabling to optimize both the amplitude and phase pattern in the angular domain of interest and the large frequency band. - Antenna concepts Trade-off and preliminary design/analysis - Selection of an antenna baseline and optimization using the developed tools - Technology Roadmap and development plan.
